cyndi lauper detourBoca Raton, FL- Cyndi Lauper played to a sold out crowd in Boca Raton, FL. She is currently on tour promoting her new country album, “Detour”. That’s right, I said country. Detour is a collection of country covers featuring a host of musical guests including Vince gill, Alison Krauss, Willie Nelson, & Jewel to name a few. The album opens with a cover of Wanda Jackson’s single “Funnel of Love”, which also opens Lauper’s live concert.

This is the 12th album for Cyndi Lauper and she is represented  by SIRE Record label. Lauper told the audience at her Boca Raton concert, ” in the 80’s all the big names were on SIRE, I always wanted to work with them. Here’s my chance to get back to my roots and take a DETOUR from R&B music.” Lauper has a grit and tone to her voice that lends itself toward country music and the covers she has chosen to represent this talent on her album are well thought out. When I closed my eyes and listened to her sing it was easy to get swept away into her country girl sound. I’m starting to believe that this well layered musician can tackle any music genre. When the song was over and she addressed the crowd in her heavy Brooklyn, NY accent you immediately reconnected with her and her deep collection of hits. The fans were on their feet when hits like “She-Bop” & “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” were played. Her encore solo of “Time after Time” was so unique and added a personal touch to the live concert that we were all reminded that at age 65 and 12 recorded albums to date, we have so much more to look forward to with this living legend.
