Bret Michaels, Paul Rodgers, Bad Company to Headline RockFest 80’s
WESTON, FL — The VIP RockFest 80’s event took place at Bonaventure Resort and Spa. This event featured BIG 105.9’s Paul Castronovo of The Paul & Young Ron Morning Show, presenters of the RockFest 80’s festival. The line up of performers is deep. Bret Michaels and Paul Rodgers will headline the two-day concert series at Markham Park. This inaugural festival will include more than 20 prominent 80’s rock music artists on two main stages, an 80’s dance party, Rock your Locks hair experience, Muscle Car Madness Show, and so much more. The festival takes place this weekend at Markham Park in Sunrise on April 2nd and 3rd.
I was on the scene at last night’s VIP event and caught up with presenter and radio personality Paul Castronovo. We spoke about the need for a hard rock event in Broward and he shared how Roy Anthony, the promoter of this year’s inaugural event came to be. ” Roy Anthony was brought to the station when I heard he was thinking of putting on a full scale rock event, we became fast friends. Here we are months later with a bonafide kick-ass rock & roll show right in our backyard!”
Castronovo when on to list some of the talent booked to perform over the weekend. “Ace” Frehley the lead guitarist of the rock band Kiss, Paul Rodgers vocalist Bad Company, The Romantics, John Waite, Sebastian Bach & Steve Val, and main stage headliner Bret Michaels of Poison to name just a few.
Eddie Trunk the writer and creator of VH1 “That Metal Show” spoke at last nights event saying,”its great to be apart of this event..growing this party and all this weekend has to offer for all who love this music. It’s great to see a new event in this area, has not been one for too long'”
I caught up with Roy Anthony the mastermind of the this event. He says, “ZetaFest was the last rock music festival in this area, this event puts rock and roll back on the map for south Florida. The Sirius channel experience has opened the 80’s rock and roll market to all ages. This 2 day festival is a throwback as well as a look forward to all who love this music. The festival has been well planned with lots going on off main stage. The concert goer will experience hands on 80’s themed venues and music that represents that time period. 48 hours of fun for all.”The evening was closed out by an acoustic set played by Kip Winger. He will be performing this weekend on main stage as well. All loved hearing his rock hits broken down into the acoustic set he played.
